KNOW. OKAY, WELL, THE SUPER BOWL JUST AROUND THE CORNER, THAT MEANS SUPER SNACKS. BUT THE BINGE EATING CAN HAVE A NEGATIVE EFFECT. JOINING US TO TALK ABOUT THAT IS SARAH JEROME, A REGISTERED DIETITIAN AT CHI HEALTH. THANKS FOR JOINING US, SARAH. THANKS FOR HAVING ME. HEY, SARAH, I KNOW MYSELF THAT WHEN I PLAN AHEAD AND RECOGNIZE THAT THERE’S GOING TO BE A LOT OF FOOD THERE, IT IT’S HELPFUL, RIGHT? PLANNING AHEAD. THAT’S RIGHT. IT IS. AND SO DO YOU RECOMMEND THAT PEOPLE KIND OF LOOK OVER THE SELECTIONS AND MAKE SOME CHOICES, MAKE A PLATE AND STICK WITH IT? UM, WELL, YEAH, I WOULD SAY HAVING A GAME PLAN AHEAD OF TIME IS ALWAYS IMPORTANT BECAUSE AS YOU MENTIONED EARLIER, UM, SOME RESEARCH SHOWS THAT PEOPLE EAT UP TO 8000 CALORIES ON SUPER BOWL SUNDAY, WHICH IS FOUR TIMES THE AVERAGE, UH, 2000 CALORIE DAY. RECOMMEND NATION. SO I THINK JUST KNOWING THAT THAT THAT DAY IS GOING TO NORMALLY BE, YOU KNOW, FOOD HEAVY JUST TO HAVE A GAME PLAN, A GAME PLAN AHEAD OF TIME. UM, MAKE SURE TO INCLUDE YOUR VEGETABLES, A HEALTHY PROTEIN SOURCE. UM, THEN YOU SHOULD BE GOOD TO GO. WE KNOW IT’S A BIG DAY FOR THOSE ADULT BEVERAGES AS WELL. DO YOU HAVE ANY ADVICE IN THAT AREA? I DO, YES. UM, DRINKING IS A FUN PART OF MOST SOCIAL EVENTS. HOWEVER, BINGE DRINKING IS NEVER A GOOD IDEA. AND IF WE’RE JUST COMING OFF DRY JANUARY ESPECIALLY CONSUMING A LOT OF ALCOHOL ALL OF A SUDDEN IS A BIG LEAP AND SHOCKS OUR SYSTEM. AFTER A MONTH OF NO ALCOHOL, WE KIND OF RESET OUR BODY SO ANY ALCOHOL OVERLOAD OFTEN LEADS TO WORSE HANGOVERS. THE NEXT DAY. SURE. SO I WOULD SAY FOCUSING ON MODERATION AND MAKING SURE WATER IS PRESENT IN THE MIX IS IMPORTANT TOO. AND GOING HYDRATED RIGHT? YES, DEFINITELY STAYING HYDRATED. THAT’LL KIND OF JUST HELP HELP THE BODY WORK A LITTLE BIT BETTER. KEEP THINGS FLUSHING IN AND OUT AND, UM, YOU KNOW, PREVENT HEADACHES AND ANYTHING LIKE THAT. IT’S REALLY IMPORTANT. OKAY. DO YOU HAVE ANY TRICKS TO NOT OVEREATING? UM, THE AGE OLD QUESTION IF YOU COULD SOLVE THIS ONE. SARAH, THIS WOULD BE AMAZING. UM, I THINK THE FIRST THING IS JUST NOT COMING HUNGRY. UM, YOU MIGHT BE TEMPTED TO NOT EAT ANYTHING BEFOREHAND BECAUSE, YOU KNOW, YOU KNOW, YOU’RE TRYING TO SAVE ROOM FOR ALL OF THAT INFORMATION. THAT’S PRETTY COMMON, ACTUALLY. UM, BUT BUT THIS OFTEN LEADS TO OVEREATING DOWN THE ROAD. SO MAKING SURE WE HAVE OF EVEN IF IT’S A SMALL SNACK BEFOREHAND AND CAN KIND OF HELP CURB THAT APPETITE AND PREVENT EATING A WHOLE BUNCH ALL AT ONCE. I KNOW A LOT OF SUPER BOWL PARTIES ARE POTLUCK STYLE. ANY TIPS IN THAT AREA ON MAYBE THINGS YOU CAN BRING TO THE PARTY THAT ARE BETTER IDEAS? YEAH, I SURE DO. UM, VEGGIES AND DIP ARE GREAT GAME DAY OPTIONS. THINGS LIKE CARROTS, UH, CUCUMBERS, BELL PEPPERS ARE ALL GREAT TO DIP IN THE SAME THINGS THAT YOU WOULD NORMALLY USE CHIPS AND CRACKERS FOR DIPS LIKE HUMMUS ARE GOOD FOR OUR HEART BECAUSE GARBANZO BEANS HAVE PROTEIN AND HEALTHY SOURCES OF FAT AND IF YOU MAKE YOUR OWN, YOU CAN CONTROL WHAT INGREDIENTS YOU PUT INTO IT. UM, YOU CAN ALSO MAKE A LOT OF HEART HEALTHY SWAPS LIKE NONFAT GREEK YOGURT INSTEAD OF SOUR CREAM FOR RANCH DIP OR BUFFALO CHICKEN DIP. THERE’S LESS FAT THAT WAY, AND IT’S A GREAT SOURCE OF PROTEIN. AGAIN, IND OF HELPING TO PREVENT THAT OVEREATING AT ONE TIME, MY KIDS ALWAYS JOKE WITH ME THA
