Not only is May Mental Health Awareness Month, but May 6th is International No-Diet Day.
This is truly one of my favorite days of the year. When it comes around on the calendar, I smile… every year, every time because it also happens to be my birthday!
Not sure how the stars aligned on that one, but it did.
Today is all about celebrating! I’m closing out my celebration of 15 years in clinical practice with a special sale I held on my online training courses for dietitians and clinicians.
My hope is that, one day, dieting and diet culture will no longer be such a driving force in our world and on our mental health.
I’ve said this before and it rings true to this day – I stand on the shoulders of other clinicians and activists who, for decades, have been waving the banner and making the case for body acceptance, body liberation, and living our lives in connection to our own sense of our own needs and values, rather than a reaction to diet culture.
We live in a world that makes these goals incredibly difficult to achieve. I respect and value the ways each of you are fighting for a world where all bodies can be respected and accepted, whether it is through your own eating disorder recovery or the work you do as a clinician.
Today, I want you to take a risk and share this anti-dieting message.
As artist Glenn Marla has now famously said,
You know it. I know it. More and more people are learning this every year because of our work.
We are making a difference.
Thank you for being in this space and on this journey with me.
