There’s no way of avoiding Christmas now – every Tesco Express near me has filled their (very top) shelves with Christmas chocolates and gifts and soon it will be moved down to eye level with the hum of Michael Bublé in the background.
I have seen my fair share of advent calendars this year (as early as June if you’re interested to know) – this is the hard life of a food journalist.
There are some impressive options in the beauty advent calendar world, as well as options for coffee lovers, stationery enthusiasts and those who’d prefer a daily tipple to lead them up to Christmas day.
However, if you want to know the one foodie advent calendar I’ll be spending my money on this year, and one I think will make you reconsider the classic chocolate advent calendar, it’s the Malt Ball Advent Calendar from Selfridges.
Granted, it’s name isn’t as catchy as using the word Malteser.. but it’s a very playful interpretation of the loveable malty treat and a nice way to begin your countdown to Christmas.

As the name suggests, it is an advent calendar filled with insanely delicious crunchy flavoured malted biscuit chocolate balls. There are four flavours in the calendar – blonde, salted caramel, orange and cookies and cream (my personal favourite).
Each ball has a velvety smooth and generous coating of chocolate on the outside, with the inside hiding a crispy malt biscuit with punchy flavours – I’m salivating just thinking about these!
