In this episode, I respond to a parent whose child has left and returned to an eating disorder treatment center twice and wonders what she can do to avoid an endless cycle. She is frustrated and worried about her child, and wants to know who can help. I’ll talk about the thing that almost nobody talks about when a child is in treatment, and that’s how the parents can help. Because if the child returns from treatment to the same family system, it’s going to be very hard to recover. I share my recommendation for the skills parents need to learn to help their child recover.
