Image Español Parties, family dinners, and other gatherings where food is served are all part of the holiday cheer. But the joy can change to misery if food makes you or others ill. Please eat something,” she said.My friend meant well. Eyes widened in a stunned fury that could have burned holes through my stomach, I knew she was yelling at me because she cared. But at that moment, I felt like crawling into the wall. Letting it absorb and freeze me in its time capsule until the moment I was ready to deal with this conversation. I didn’t have a problem. Why couldn’t she see that? Why was it any of her concern in the first place? Fine, I might’ve skipped a few meals when I was busy, but I hadn’t entirely stopped…

Mice exhibit HFD overconsumption at 24 h post-PSS exposureTo understand how threatening stimuli trigger emotional stress responses, we used a PSS paradigm26,27 in which mice (8–10 weeks old) are exposed to a volatile predator cue (e.g., cat odor) that signifies imminent danger (Fig. 1a). To assess the acute impact of PSS on the development of negative emotions such as aversion, we exposed individual mice to a confined chamber with a PSS zone (center) and a non-PSS zone (periphery). We found that, in the presence of PSS, mice spend significantly more time in the periphery, maximizing their distance from the center with no…

And then when he’s…

A rough time prompted a retrospective diagnosis. Content warning: This article contains descriptions of alcohol abuse and binge eating disorder. I’m walking around the office with my big chunky headphones on, thinking it’s giving cute and sexy German DJ girl. Nobody knows I’m actually listening to white noise, brown noise and aeroplane cabin sounds – basically any sort of low hum to drown out the constant noise of my open-plan workspace. Concentrating doesn’t come easy for me, in fact, it’s a battle to stay focused in a setting like this.  ADHD seems to be the new flavour of the month…
