Reasons is committed to supporting and elevating Black voices year-round, particularly on topics related to mental health and eating disorders. Black History Month offers a timely opportunity to share some of the advocacy groups and thought leaders that inspire our team every day. Take a look at these resources to gain new perspectives and inspiration for prioritizing Black communities and Black healing.

Black Emotional and Mental Health Collective (BEAM)

The Black Emotional and Mental Health Collective (BEAM) proclaims, “Black History is Black Healing.” Our staff couldn’t agree more. BEAM is a national institution focused on training, movement building, and grant making that promotes healing, wellness and liberation of Black and marginalized communities.

Alishia McCullough – Black & Embodied

Alishia is a social justice warrior, a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Therapist and Owner of Black and Embodied Counseling and Consulting. She is a major contributor to the field of Black mental health, co-founder of the Amplify Melanated Voices Movement, and founder of The Holistic Black Healing Collective, an online community aimed to support BIPOC individuals on topics of collective liberation and wellness.

Sonya Renee Taylor – Poet, Activist, Artist & Thought Leader

Sonya Renee Taylor is the founder of the digital media collective, The Body is Not an Apology, which focuses on promoting radical self-love and body empowerment as foundational tools for social justice and global transformation. She is also the author of two seminal books on body empowerment, including “The Body is Not an Apology: The Power of Radical Self-Love.”

Many powerhouse resources exist to promote and advocate for Black healing and Black mental health. Reasons staff wanted to share a few more resources to explore beyond those mentioned above:
