The messages from diet culture on what makes something ‘healthy’ continue to endure over time.

Summer gives me nostalgia vibes. The warmer weather, longer days, popsicles, and flip flops really do bring me back. And thanks to my marketing director, I’ve been going on a different kind of trip back in time.

She recently shared with me my top 3 most popular blog posts of all time. They continue to get a ton of website traffic even today, and even without me promoting them! The list honestly surprised me.

I started keeping a blog back in 2010. Would I write the same posts now that I wrote back then? Well, that’s what we’re about to find out.

I’m going to take you with me on a time machine to revisit the most popular blog posts I’ve ever written that, for whatever reason, are still getting shares and clicks years later! I’ll assess whether I stand by my old posts and want you to vote on whether you want more content like it.

Let’s start with the 3rd most popular post….drumroll please!

We are back in April 2010. The post: Product No Case: Dannon Light and Fit Yogurt.

don't fall prey to diet culture

In the early days on my blog, I showcased products I LOVED and products I thought were garbage.

Or at least products masquerading as “healthy” but are more diet culture ickiness than anything else. Dannon Light and Fit falls into the icky category.

In this post from back in 2010, Product No Case: Dannon Light and Fit Yogurt, I make a case against Dannon Light and Fit because it’s positioned as “healthy” and a great product for weight loss (spoiler: there are no great products for weight loss). I point out the flaws in logic.

There is zero judgment from me if you genuinely like Dannon Light and Fit. If it works for you – great! Do I think that low calorie, fat-free yogurt filled with artificial sweetener leaves a lot to be desired? Yes. I think it tastes gross. I think that the fake sugar may make your tummy hurt and might make you fart a lot. I do not think it will keep you full for long. And I think eating it in an attempt to lose weight is a total set-up. You’ll likely just be starving because it’s more like air food – you eat it but kind of feel like you haven’t eaten anything at all. Because, well, you haven’t.

So, do I stand by this blog post? I do! I would probably write it a bit differently today but the essence of my message stands.

Don’t fall prey to marketing that promises weight loss with diet food.
We know better.

What do you think?

Do you like the Product Showcase/No Case concept for articles and blogs?

Would you like more product recommendations/takedowns? Let me know, I’m listening!

You can message me on Instagram or send me your thoughts via email from my website.

I do have a few products I absolutely stand by after all these years.

You can probably guess what they are. 😉

My online courses for dietitians and clinicians contain 15 years of client work, research, conference attendance, critical feedback, as well as my heart and soul. I stand by them BECAUSE they have evolved with me. You can check out my Food and Body Image Healers® Online Training Institute here.
