Pathayam prepares no dish using red chillies.
Pathayam restaurant also believes that cooking certain foods harms human health because it destroys the natural enzymes in foods and reduces their nutrient content.
We all desire to eat healthy food, but it’s not always given to us on a platter. Particularly, if you decide to dine outside, there are slim chances that you will get food that is deemed healthy. We are not saying that restaurants serve bad food but very few have a particular emphasis on healthy food. Pathayam, located on Government Press Road near the Thiruvananthapuram Secretariat, Kerala is one big exception. Pathayam, a natural food restaurant, emphasises the idea that “good food is the cure for all diseases, not medicine”.
It is a naturopathic food start-up that prioritises health over taste. Consequently, it is not a place for those seeking rich and indulgent dishes. Pathayam offers red pre-boiled rice, mildly spiced main courses, banana smoothies and salads. Consequently, it serves vegetarian dishes made from organic vegetables and grains. The restaurant also highlights the importance of incorporating green vegetables and millet into one’s diet for better health.
Pathayam restaurant also believes that cooking certain foods harms human health because it destroys the natural enzymes in foods, reduces their nutrient content, and reduces the “life force” they believe exists in all raw or living foods. Before the discovery of fire by humans, our ancestors used to eat food raw and were blessed with great health. The restaurant serves uncooked nuts, legumes and sprouted grains along with organically cooked meals.
The menu at the restaurant does not boast much and is more suited to grasp the interests of fitness enthusiasts rather than foodies. You will find a few South Indian dishes, tweaked in an organic style. Raw payasam, bamboo rice payasam, wheat samosa, and fruit kit are some distinctive names on their menu.
One of the chief aspects that set Pathayam apart from other restaurants is that no dish is prepared using red chillies. Instead, they use pepper and green chillies to spice up their flavours. If you identify yourself as someone who would go for healthy food over elaborate dishes, do not miss Pathayam the next time you are in Thiruvananthapuram.
