Narayani Shashtri on how she stays fit, combating emotional eating and why she likes to do roles with substance.
While shooting for a daily soap, the one thing that actors often complain about is not getting enough time to focus on their fitness. Narayani Shastri agrees and says she, too, has been battling weight issues for a while now. The actress shares how it is a vicious cycle, wherein she gains weight, manages to shed it, but then again gives in to binge eating.
Narayani says, “I have always believed in working out and staying fit. But I also love indulging in good food. And in between projects, when I am doing nothing and just lazing at home, I get into emotional eating and end up having pizzas and aloo parathas! But I want to get out of this vicious cycle now and get fit. I am totally focussed on that.” She added, “However, the weight gain has never come in the way of bagging projects. I do work out and believe in exercise but the period between projects is tough for every actor. You tend to get anxious and eat the wrong things. I want to get out of this vicious circle and am hoping that I will be fitter in a few months. I also believe that as actors we can’t afford to just let go. And that’s pushing me to stay fit all the time, whether I am shooting or not.”
The actress, who has been part of popular shows like Rishton Ka Chakravyuh, Karn Sangini and Aapki Nazron Ne Samjha, is currently seen in Lal Banarasi. Talking about her two-decade long journey, Narayani says, “I have always believed in taking up work that is substantial. Even if one has to enact a couple of scenes in a day, I like them to be nicely written. I do understand that TV works on deadlines and the makers have to churn out content everyday, but the track needs to have depth.”
